Starlink Wi-Fi for Weddings: Livestreams, Vendors & Guest Wi-Fi (2026)
Short answer
Yes. Starlink can bring Wi-Fi to a wedding venue with no cell signal, such as a barn, ranch, or mountain or desert site. One kit usually covers a ceremony livestream plus vendor payments. Add a second kit if you also want open guest Wi-Fi. Test at the venue before the big day, and plan power and placement with your coordinator.
Key takeaways
- Give the livestream its own connection. Guests scrolling on Wi-Fi can eat into the upload a stream needs.
- Stream at 720p for reliability. YouTube’s recommended 720p bitrate fits comfortably within Starlink’s typical upload.
- Vendors need Wi-Fi for card payments. Tell caterers, bars and photo booths the network name ahead of time.
- Test on site. Check the sky view, power and Wi-Fi reach at the same time of day as the ceremony.
- Book early. Borrow Starlink ships kits nationwide and quotes multi-kit weddings within 24-48 hours.
Can Starlink provide Wi-Fi at a wedding venue with no signal?
Yes. Many of the most beautiful venues are barns, ranches, mountain lodges and desert sites, and many of them have weak cell signal or no internet at all. Starlink only needs power and a clear view of the sky, so it can bring a working connection to places a hotspot can’t.
What couples and planners use it for:
- Livestreaming the ceremony for grandparents, friends overseas and anyone who can’t travel.
- Vendor card payments for bars, food trucks and photo booths.
- Photo booths that text or email pictures to guests on the spot.
- Music streaming for the DJ’s backup playlist or a cocktail hour.
- Guest Wi-Fi, so people can share photos and stay in touch.
It’s not the right choice when the venue already has solid internet, or when the site sits deep in a canyon or a dense forest with no open sky.
How much internet does a wedding livestream need?
Streaming sends video up, so upload speed matters most. Starlink’s typical upload is about 10-15 Mbps.
| Stream quality | YouTube recommended bitrate | Fit on Starlink |
|---|---|---|
| 720p (30 fps) | 3-8 Mbps | Comfortable |
| 1080p (30 fps) | 5-14 Mbps | Tight at the top end |
For a wedding, 720p is the safer choice. Remote guests care more about a stream that doesn’t freeze than about extra detail. If you want 1080p, set the encoder toward the lower end of the range.
Tip: Keep the streaming laptop or encoder on its own Starlink kit, plugged in by Ethernet if you can. If 100 guests are uploading photos on the same connection, the stream is the first thing to stutter.
Our recommendation
For most weddings, we recommend two Roam (Gen 3) kits
Use one kit for the livestream and vendor payments, and one for guest Wi-Fi. Each Gen 3 router covers about 3,200 sq ft in ideal conditions and supports up to 235 devices. Kits rent from $25/day and arrive activated, with the Wi-Fi name and password in the case.

| Wedding setup | Kits | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Livestream + 1-3 vendors | 1 | Light, controlled use |
| Livestream + vendors + guest Wi-Fi | 2 | Protects the stream |
| Ceremony and reception far apart | 2-3 | One kit per area |
Each Gen 3 router covers about 3,200 sq ft in ideal conditions. Barn walls, metal roofs and long lawns cut that down. A second Gen 3 router can also link to the first as a mesh node to stretch coverage. Our guide on how far Starlink Wi-Fi reaches explains the limits.
Vendor payments
Send vendors the Wi-Fi name and password a week ahead. Ask them to turn on their card reader’s offline mode as a backup. With Square, for example, offline payments must be uploaded within 72 hours, and the business carries the risk if a card later declines.
Where should you place Starlink at a wedding venue?
- Clear sky first. Run the obstruction check in the Starlink app. Big trees, barn rooflines and cliffs are the usual problems.
- Out of the photos. Put the dish behind the barn, on a service building or near the catering area. It doesn’t need to be close to guests, because the cable is about 50 ft.
- Router near the action. Put the router where the stream and vendors are, not where the dish is. Run Ethernet if you need more distance.
- Safe cables. Tape down or cover any cable that crosses a walkway. Keep it away from dance floors and service paths.
- Secure for wind. Open ranch and desert sites get gusty in the afternoon. Weight or anchor the base.
How do you power Starlink at a remote venue?
Most venues have at least one 110 V outlet in a barn, kitchen or tent power line. The Standard kit draws about 75-100 W, about the same as a string of event lights.
If there’s no outlet:
- Portable power station. Use Wh × 0.85 ÷ watts as a rough runtime guide. A 1,000 Wh station runs one Standard kit for about 9 hours.
- Shared generator. Your caterer or lighting vendor may already have one. Generators must run outdoors, away from tents and guests, because of carbon monoxide.
How should you test and book Starlink for a wedding?
Test on site
Set everything up at the venue during your rehearsal, at the same time of day as the ceremony. Check the sky view, run a speed test, send a private test livestream and confirm the Wi-Fi reaches the ceremony spot, the bar and the photo booth. Download the Starlink app before you leave cell coverage.
Book early
Many couples get engaged over the holidays. The Knot reports that December is the most popular month to propose and that nearly 40% of engagements happen between November and February. That makes winter a busy planning time.
You don’t need to book Starlink a year out, but reserve it as soon as your venue and date are set, so you have time to test. Borrow Starlink ships kits nationwide in hard cases, ready to plug in, with a prepaid return label. Rentals start at $25/day with a $350 refundable deposit. For two or more kits, request an events quote. We usually reply within 24-48 hours.

Frequently asked questions
Can I livestream my wedding with Starlink?
Yes. Starlink’s typical upload of about 10-15 Mbps is enough for a 720p stream. YouTube recommends 3-8 Mbps for 720p. Run a test stream at the venue first, and keep guest devices off the streaming connection.
How many Starlink kits do I need for a wedding?
One kit covers a livestream and a few vendors. Add a second if you want open guest Wi-Fi or if the ceremony and reception are far apart. Large estates with several buildings may need three.
Will card readers work if the Wi-Fi drops?
Some can. Square, for example, has an offline mode that stores card payments and processes them when you reconnect, but the business takes on the risk of declines. Vendors should turn it on and know the limits beforehand.
Do I need a generator for Starlink at a wedding?
Only if there’s no outlet. A Standard kit uses about 75-100 W from a normal 110 V outlet. A 1,000 Wh power station runs one for roughly 9 hours. Generators must run outdoors and away from guests.
How far ahead should I book Starlink for a wedding?
As soon as your date and venue are set. Kits ship nationwide, and booking early gives you time to test on site and plan placement with your venue.
