Starlink Roam Plan Explained: Prices, Data Limits & Rules (2026)
Short answer
Starlink Roam is the portable plan for RVs, camping and travel. As of October 2026 it costs $55/month for 100GB, $80/month for 300GB and $175/month for Unlimited. On the 100GB and 300GB plans, service doesn’t stop when you hit the limit; it drops to slow speeds (under 1 Mbps) until your next billing cycle, unless you upgrade to Unlimited.
Key takeaways
- Three tiers: 100GB ($55), 300GB ($80) and Unlimited ($175) per month, as of October 2026.
- No hard cutoff. Past your allowance, you get unlimited data at under 1 Mbps until the next cycle.
- In-motion use is included on Roam plans, up to 100 mph.
- Abroad is limited. 100GB and 300GB work only in your home country or region; Unlimited allows up to 30 days away.
- For occasional trips, renting is simpler. Borrow Starlink rents from $25/day with unlimited data and no Starlink account.
What is the Starlink Roam plan?
Roam is Starlink’s plan for using the dish in more than one place. You can set it up at a campsite, a cabin, a rental house or on top of an RV, and move it whenever you want within your home country or region. It’s the only plan the Starlink Mini works with in the US, and the Standard kit can use it too.
Residential plans are different. They’re tied to one service address and are meant for a fixed home.
How much does Starlink Roam cost in 2026?
As of October 2026, US Roam pricing is:
| Plan | Price | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Roam 100GB | $55/month | 100GB high-speed |
| Roam 300GB | $80/month | 300GB high-speed |
| Roam Unlimited | $175/month | Unlimited |
Hardware is extra: about $149 for the Mini kit and $349 for the Standard kit. Starlink raised most plan prices by $5-$10 in June 2026, and prices change often, so check before you buy.
Roam 100GB replaced the old Roam 50GB plan on January 13, 2026. The 300GB tier was added in May 2026.
How much is 100GB?
At Netflix’s suggested ~5 Mbps for HD, an hour of HD streaming uses about 2.25GB. That’s roughly 40-45 hours of HD video a month on Roam 100GB, before email, browsing and video calls. Light users and weekend campers will be fine. A family streaming every evening, or anyone working full-time on video calls, will likely run past it.
What happens when you hit the Roam data limit?
This changed in January 2026. On Roam 100GB and Roam 300GB:
- Service doesn’t cut off. Once you use your allowance, you keep unlimited data at reduced speeds, under 1 Mbps up and down, until the next billing cycle.
- Slow data is good for basics. Messages, email and calls should work. Streaming, big downloads and video calls will struggle.
- You’ll get warnings. Starlink notifies you at 80% and 100% of your allowance.
- No more pay-per-GB. The old option to buy extra high-speed data by the gigabyte is gone.
- To get full speed back, you upgrade to Roam Unlimited. That change stays in place for future months until you switch back yourself.
Unused data doesn’t roll over. Check your usage in the Starlink app.
Tip: If you’re close to your limit, set streaming apps to standard definition and turn off automatic photo and video backups. They use more data than most people expect.

Going on one or two trips this winter? Rent instead
Borrow Starlink rents the Mini and Roam (Gen 3) kits from $25/day with unlimited data, so there’s no data cap to watch and no monthly plan to cancel. Kits arrive activated in a hard case with a prepaid return label. A $350 damage deposit is fully refundable.

Yes. Roam plans support in-motion use at speeds up to 100 mph. Above that, service is disabled; aircraft need separate aviation plans.
A few rules of the road:
- Mount it securely. A loose dish on a roof is a hazard. Use a proper mount, not the kickstand.
- Keep the driver’s view clear, and only passengers should use connected devices while moving.
- Expect dropouts under bridges, in tunnels, in parking garages and under heavy tree cover.
More detail is in our guide on whether Starlink works while driving.
Can you take Starlink Roam abroad?
Not as freely as before. Starlink tightened its international rules in summer 2026 (from July 14 for new customers and August 17 for existing ones):
- Roam 100GB and 300GB work only in your home country or region. For US customers, that’s the US and Canada region.
- Roam Unlimited can be used abroad for up to 30 days at a time. After that, you return home to reset the clock, move to a pricier plan, or transfer service.

How do pausing and Standby Mode work?
Starlink replaced the old “pause” option with Standby Mode. Instead of turning service off, Standby keeps the dish connected at very low speed (about 0.5 Mbps) for a lower monthly fee. As of October 2026 it’s about $10/month. You can switch back to a full Roam plan from the app when you need it.
Standby is useful as a cheap emergency line for messages and calls. Two limits:
- It doesn’t work in motion. Since early 2026, Standby shuts off when the dish detects movement.
- It’s not for real use. At about 0.5 Mbps, streaming and video calls aren’t practical.
You can also cancel Roam entirely between seasons, then reactivate later.
Should you buy a Mini and Roam, or rent?
It depends on how often you travel. Here’s a rough comparison as of October 2026, using Borrow Starlink’s $25/day starting rate.
One 4-day trip:
- Own: about $149 for the Mini + $55 for one month of Roam 100GB = ~$204, plus the hassle of cancelling or paying for Standby afterward.
- Rent: 4 days × $25 = ~$100, with unlimited data. The $350 deposit is refunded when the kit comes back undamaged.
Three 4-day trips a year:
- Own: $149 + 3 months of Roam 100GB ($165) = ~$314 if you cancel between trips, or about $404 if you keep Standby on the other nine months.
- Rent: 12 days × $25 = ~$300.
Rent if you travel a handful of times a year, want unlimited data without watching a cap, need a Standard kit only occasionally (for a cabin or event), or don’t want another subscription to manage.
Buy if you’re on the road most months, live in an RV, or need Starlink on short notice many times a year. Past roughly two weeks of use a month, owning usually wins.
Not sure yet? Renting for one trip is a low-cost way to see whether Starlink works at your campsite or cabin before you buy anything.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still buy extra high-speed data on Roam 100GB?
No. Starlink removed the pay-per-GB top-up when it moved from Roam 50GB to Roam 100GB in January 2026. To get full speed back mid-month, you upgrade to Roam Unlimited.
Does unused Roam data roll over?
No. Each billing cycle starts with a fresh allowance, and unused data doesn’t carry over.
Can I use Standby Mode while driving?
No. Since early 2026, Standby service shuts off when the dish detects it’s moving. You need an active Roam plan for in-motion use.
Can I use the Starlink Mini on a Residential plan?
No. In the US the Mini works only with Roam plans. The Standard kit can use either.
Do Borrow Starlink rentals need a Starlink account?
No. Rentals arrive pre-activated with unlimited data. Just download the Starlink app before you leave cell service.
Only need Starlink for a few trips?
Rent a ready-to-connect Starlink kit from Borrow Starlink. Starlink Mini and Starlink Roam (Gen 3) from $25/day, unlimited data, no Starlink account needed.
